Lactobacillus casei

A friendly bacteria strain found in yoghurt that supports immunity, smooth digestion, and joint comfort.

What it is

Lactobacillus casei is one of the well-known friendly bacteria from the yoghurt family found naturally in fermented (cultured) foods like yoghurt and in healthy human gut linings. In Velobiotics supplements, L. casei is protected by micro-shields (MEP microencapsulation) that guard each live bacterium against harsh stomach acid and bile, delivering them safely into your lower gut where they can work.

Also known as: L. casei, Lacticaseibacillus casei

Key benefits

  • Supports your gut immune defences, helping your body stay resilient year-round.
  • Promotes bowel regularity, which means less occasional bloating or digestive discomfort.
  • Helps maintain joint comfort by supporting a balanced inflammation.
  • Keeps your gut bacteria balanced, so good bacteria outnumber the bad.

Amplified by probiotics

Lactobacillus casei works hand-in-hand with other friendly bacteria in your gut. By producing natural lactic and acetic acids, L. casei lowers gut pH to create an environment where bad bacteria cannot thrive. It also produces protective compounds that help other friendly strains stick to your gut wall, strengthening your gut barrier so nutrients are absorbed smoothly.

Typical dose

1–10 billion live bacteria (CFU) a day

The evidence

Evidence: strong

Human studies demonstrate that supplementing with Lactobacillus casei helps maintain steady bowel habits and supports digestive recovery. Research also shows it can calm inflammatory signals to promote joint comfort and overall physical wellbeing (Sojitra S 2026, J Cancer Res Ther) (Barac B 2025, J Infect Dev Ctries) (Abdollahpour D 2025, BMC Psychiatry).
